Where in the world is Gus the Goose Header.jpg

When people think about going abroad, they often think about the glamor-shots – posing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, zip-lining over a waterfall in Ecuador, climbing the Great Wall of China. But as our students know, most of studying abroad is not so glamorous – it is taking the bus to get to school, cooking dinner with your flatmates, becoming a ‘regular’ at your favorite coffee-spot in town.

Studying abroad is not only about seeing amazing sights and traveling with your friends (although that is a cool perk), it is about learning a new culture, city, and language by practice and immersion. It is the confidence earned by thriving in a new city - mastering its public transit, eating new foods, creating life-long friendships - and the exposure to different walks of life that creates a study abroad experience. And this experience is all in an effort to gain cultural fluency and understanding and make our campus and world a more diverse and welcoming place.

We asked the 25 students who are currently studying abroad to take their best “Daily-Life” photograph with Gus as a way to showcase the day-to-day life of a study-abroad student. We are pleased to announce this year’s winners below! Thank you to all of the students who participated!
